Schreiber (sbs) "Fall" received a lot of harsh criticism from disappointed math rock fans, because this album departs radically from the realm of highly technical guitar virtuosity into pure melodic fields, somewhere on the borderline of alternative rock and post-rock. Frankly, I don't second this scoulding at all. Granted, Marcus Gooda & friends delivered a whole bunch of outstanding math rock, and their fans were longing for more - but does the band have to stay there forever? Change is never a failure as long as it yields something equally worthwhile, and I think "The Yacht Club" suceeded quite in this respect. Kudos for the courage of trying something different against all expectations! Favorite track: Put Your Life in a Box.

The Yacht Club return with their experimentally birthed EP, ‘Fall’.

The release is a delicate presentation of loss and yearning; TYC’s most exposed and fragile effort to date, whilst simultaneously being the most layered and orchestrated. Having a solid lineup in flux saw each musician adapt to several different instruments, breaking free of traditional band roles and allowing TYC to fully embrace and flex their creative muscles unlike any of their previous efforts.

The frenzied Math Rock inspired guitar tapping and jerky time signatures might be absent from ‘Fall’, but what remains is the distilled emotional trademark TYC has always been known for: painfully honest lyrics with a ‘heart-on-you-sleeve’ attitude in a potent emotional delivery.

‘Fall’ was recorded and engineered by Thomas Hill at Underhill Studios. Produced by Marcus Gooda and Thomas Hill. The Yacht Club will self-release on 25/11/16 with a limited cassette run through Beth Shalom Records.
